Areas Of Focus
Carmela is the Founder of Dynamic Minds Therapy. She provides therapy for children, preteens, and teens who are experiencing struggles at home, in the community, or at school. Oftentimes bullying, isolation, or neurodivergent needs show up in other ways – including behavioural issues, dysregulation, non-communication with parents, withdrawal from activities, or a dislike or refusal to go to school. She has found that issues that are affecting children’s lives can display as feelings of sadness, loneliness, detachment, anger, or confusion. This can be hard to manage for parents, children, and families overall.
One of the most important aspects of therapy for children and teens is the effort and work that is put into building trust. It’s essential for kids to have a space where they feel comfortable expressing their complex emotions and struggles without fear of being judged. Carmela supports children and teens with generalized anxiety, social anxiety, depression, attention/focus, regulation, identity exploration, communication, and self-confidence.
Carmela has over 20 years of experience providing counselling for children and teens and strives to promote growth through the use of relevant therapy tools and talk therapy. She uses an eclectic approach and draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Play Therapy, and AutPlay to help children and teens gain the skills and resources they need. She provides child & teen therapy, parent support, family therapy, and group therapy.
Therapy for children and teens can profoundly shape their worldview, offer comfort in times of emotional and physical challenges, and offer them a safe space to express feelings of hurt, disconnect, and loneliness. Carmela is committed to providing a neurodiverse affirming approach to therapy in order to ensure she respects and supports the uniqueness of each individual.
Carmela’s areas of focus include:
Anxiety | Depression | Emotional Regulation | Social Confidence-Communication | Autism | ADHD | Learning Disabilities | Transition to Adulthood | Trauma | Children-Teens | Parent Support | Clinical Supervision
